16 June : Youth Day public holiday

Today is Youth Day, a public holiday which celebrates Hector Pietersen sacrificing his life during the Soweto Riots on 16 June 1976, which was started by school children in Soweto, protesting against having to learn Afrikaans, one of the official languages, at school.
